hey everybody.....been awhile but i need help with a leakin "manual retard device"....sounds like the perfect part for me.....on my 76' 5040 deisel (romainian) fuel injector pump....fuel is leakin down the pin post....does that mean the spring is weak? or is there a worn seal surface somewhere? not sure if parts for this are available still.....thinkin i gotta put a grout sponge in a ziplock bag and strap it to the fuel shut off rods......i backed the shut off up a bit to get the stop off the pin but it continues to leak

Older tractors that were built before the mandated USLD, need to have the pumps totally resealed. When the older diesel fuel (that had high sulphur) was being used, the shlphur would absorb into the rubber of the seals and was keeping the seals soft to do their job. Now that you can only get USLD that sulphur is now being absorbed into the USLD and hardening the seals and they now leak. Leaking injector pumps will only get worse as time passes.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

The retard device has a seal inside it, after removal an careful disassembly can be replaced. but as mentioned above, it will just start leaking other places. Usually the CAV pumps leak bad at throttle and shutoff shafts.

5950-34C is the seal number and is not included in the pump seal kit. It needs purchased separately.
