 If any of you ever want to visit the Shenandoah Valley, our parents 1848 farm house is on the AirBnb website. Come stay and enjoy piece and quiet, the sound of the nearby creek running as you set on the rear porch. Bring your boat, canoe or kayak and enjoy floating the Shenandoah river right from our property! Great smallmouth and largemouth bass fishing. If you come during hay season, you may help bale hay lol! All fields and grounds are taken care of by 100% AC tractors. Our CA handles the big yard work while the smaller Allis mowers tackle the trim work. 720 with sickle mower and WD with 82S sickle mower also trim along the river and driveway. If you love history, a beautiful scenery, love to fish or boat, look us up. Mom passed in 2016 and Dad in 2018 and we have been redoing the house since then. Lots of work! The farm has been in our family since 1921 and yep, we all grew up there! We use it as a rental now to pay taxes and insurance.

The home was in Southern Living probably 30 years ago. Charlie and I have fond memories growing up there and still enjoy the beautiful landscape, river. As Charlie said we have spend the past 2 years doing needed maintenance, adding new heating and air conditioning, total interior painting, replacing both porches, refinishing all the floors. | Looks like a nice old home, neat how the chimney is built into the wall all but 1 brick offset. Is that brick over a frame or logs? Don’t think I’ve seen anything like that up this way. Nice pictures |

Brick on brick :) The base walls are 18" or so thick up to level 1 then it steps in a course or 2. But yes it is layers of brick built on Rock slabs. The Chimney's are neat when you look down into them and seeing the different flue routes for each fire place. Gee Charlie, I didn’t realize I’m that short!! By the way, those 2 XT’s are only 4 serial numbers apart. Our grandfather built a small shop beside the creek(which is still there)that he did blacksmith work in, sawed logs, drill press, that all ran off of a water wheel. He also powered an electric generator with the water wheel that powered the house with electricity from the 1930’s-1948 when the power company finally came through the area. His home was the only one to have electricity during that time period. But, since you have a nice house I'm curious why you decided to rent it and especially on airbnb. This is quite complicated because you have to clean after everybody and since it's not their house they are not very careful with everything around. We have our grandparents' house and we still think what can we do with it because it holds lots of memories and we don't think selling it is a good idea. |
