A little off from orange tractors.

Have any of you guys had anything to do with metal shingles ?

Thinking about putting them on our house.

Mother in law has them on her home. They look good and you would never know they were metal unless someone pointed it out to you. She put them on six years ago when she was 87.. A true optimist.

Been checking them out , seems like a good thing and a little more expensive but they have a great warrenty

Personally we went with conventional Barn Tin style tin roof, ONE panel length from Peak to eave, MINIMAL seams and so far only leak have had is a Thru roof Sewage vent stack. I am NOT one to worry of Aesthetics.

I have a 'Hy-Grade' steel roof on the house. Installed in 2014, ZERO problems. They strapped2by3s, then 1by4s over the existing roof,leveling as required, so lots of air space. Continuous ridge vent PLUS vents over the existing ones in old roof.Added one for the bathroom as well. Only cost $1500 more than '50 year shingles' on new plywood would have.Hmm... I got 9 years out of the 2nd '25yr shingles, so steel was an easy decision. It'll outlive me and if I were to sell, it's better return value than the new kitchen.

Seen the ridge cap roof vent on Mike Holmes show last night - seems thats the way to go

All my farm buildings are steel roofs. House is gonna need a new roof in the next couple of years and it'll get steel too. The manufacturer of the steel roofing in this area is the big Hutterite Colony about 10 miles east. I buy direct from them and usually install myself, but for the house with the vents, chimney etc. I'll get them to do the install. Only way to go as asphalt shingles seem to have a very short life these days.

Have painted steel on house and two pole buildings; all one sheet eaves to ridge and no leaks. One building over 30 years and just now thinking will need to paint in the next couple of years. House has been about 12 years and still looks very good. Like the idea of one sheet per run.
