Is the packing for a CA better quality from an Agco dealer than a cheaper aftermarket set? Agco is about double the price, but if it's a better product then I don't mind. Just want the leak to go away! ------------- CA Tractor |

I would suspect they are both made in the same place with different packaging. ------------- D14, D17, 5020, 612H, CASE 446 |

I've seen the cheap ones and AGCO both...I would go with AGCO... |

When you say "packing" what exactly is that? I have heard that term used for repairing cylinders, but never really understood it. In my parts book for my 14 it looks like O rings are used in the lift cylinder. I never been in one so I'm not exactly sure tho. ------------- D14, D17, 5020, 612H, CASE 446 |

The lift cylinders on my WD45 are leaking some fluid. A neighbor mentioned, he took the nut on the end off, wrapped some graphite packing rope around the ram, then tightened the nut back on and this stopped the leaking for him on his '45. some cylinders use a square rope type packing, but that is normally low pressure.. "MOST" single acting cylinders 50 years ago used what is call CHEVRON VEE packing... and yes, you tighten up the nut to FLARE OUT the VEE and it seals on the walls of the cylinder and the rod both... If it is worn and needs more CRUNCH, you might be able to add a rope ring, but normally the old VEE is HARD and time to replace. Im sure ALLIS sells packing for twice what others do. If you buy from a REPUTABLE dealer, you can probably get it for half price..There are a lot of guys that sell VEE packing for cylinders..  ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

| I used Baum Hyds. for my packing on my D12. They were a 1/3 of the cost and worked great! |
