I'm doing maintenance on my WD45's for the PTO carrier bearings. I bought new carrier bearing seals that were supposed to be AGCO 70208417. They are not but will probably do the job. I just prefer the original style.   Has anyone used these non original seals,right seal in photos? I run finish mowers and brush hogs with these WD45's. They are not show tractors. Also it looks like I may need to weld the shaft were the old seals wore grooves and then polish to the original surface dimension.  Any comments are appreciated.

I wouldn't weld the shaft. Use a Speedi-Sleeve or how ever it's spelt.... but I'd bet the new seals will run in a slightly different spot. I can't remember when I did my WD pto carrier, if two seals would fit in the place of one. I would take Lonn’s advice and use the speedy sleeves and be sure it seals. In some instances when there is room I’ve used 2 seals back to back. Good luck. ------------- It's the color tractor my grandpa had! |

I decided to do the shade tree mechanic fix and used JB weld to fill the wear grooves. I wet sanded with 600g emery cloth. Came out nice and smooth. The new seals do ride just outside of the wear marks so I'm safe. One down, one to go. The bearing is packed with grease along with the extra area between the bearing and new seals. I cleaned the PTO shaft and brushed it with black rustoleum. Not one sees the shaft anyway. All ready for a summer of mowing grass with a 6ft brush hog.
