I started cleaning them up a couple of days ago, grinding the old paint off with a gator brand paint removal disk. I had a plain old dust mast on yesterday and a face shield. I still got the darn stuff in my eyes and nose. Today I tried some expensive dusk masks and the face shield. Still got dust in the nose and in the eyes. Went to Menard's, H.F., and Northern tool looking for a full face respirator. None of them had any. Got to thinking on the way home, I've got 2 Complete masks for my sandblaster on the shelf behind the tire machine. It covers the whole head and part of me shoulders. I tried the new one on tonight, with it and my better dust mask looks like its gonna work. Dang this getting old and forgetful, sometimes the dim light bulb does get a little brighter.

Yeah, and if it's windy in the work area, it'll blow all that stuff around you 'till it fills your shirt pockets, ears, hair...

If your blasting hood has a fresh air tube, mebbie a slow-flow vent feeding in fresh from a distance will help keep it clean and comfy under the leather...   I actually have an old leather blasting hood fitted with a #11 flip-up, and have a supply hose to it using a draft-inducer blower (with a restrictor) to help keep me cool and clean when I'm doing dirty/enclosed/confined welding.  A respirator helps filter crud out of the air, but using remote supply means that crud never gets to 'ya in the first place.
