Big benefit of wooden Log homes was supposed to be Insulation value of solid wood.  Make them from Concrete and that goes the way of exposed Concrete walls, Cold as crap.

BIGGEST problem with solid walls is planning ahead for wire / plugs / switches in the walls as you build ............ then the plumbing !

re: Big benefit of wooden Log homes was supposed to be Insulation value of solid wood.
yeah , a myth.. R-value of wood is ONE.
Old skool logs were round,so a 10" log is R10 AT the center, NOTHING at the joint though...
New skool logs( square timbers really ) 10" thick wood be R10ish....
Standard insulated 2by6 wall is R19-R22.
There was a TV show, place in BC making log homes. They never, ever should HOW doors, windows and kitchen cabinets had to be made ADJUSTABLE cause the logs 'settle' over the years.
What I always wondered was how much time was spent re'chinking' the gaps in a log home, specially a 2 storey one..or rather how much time SHOULD be spent.
