| Can someone explain what it is on a tractor ? Is it similar to a hydro tranny on a combine ? There is a post on AT about a 170 with it today and I've read about other tractors with this feature. Thanks |

my backhoe has a shuttle shift on it you put it in a selected gear and then there is a big "stick" on the left had side that you push forward for forward motion and pull back for reverse movement. very handy for use on a loader tractor no clutching going from forward to reverse |

| I've it on my D-15 that has a 415 allis loader on it and works like Nick said and my pto is 540 rpm. |

| Not even remotely similar to a hydro. Instead of a two speed power director it has two same speeds one foward one reverse. When you push the lever foward would be low on a regular tractor it goes foward whatever gear the transmition determine your speed. Pull back to center on the stick tractor stops both power director clutches are disengaged. Pull back on the lever engages what would be high clutch but instead power flow is reversed so now your going backwards in whatever gear the transmition is in. |

Dave What you describe is bassawkards for any D Series I have driven ( 14, 15, 17) Power Director Forward for High Range, Backward for Low Range. G |

Thanks for the description of HOW it works and makes sense of the replies that Doc gave to the guy about PTO (dual) speeds .

I plan on installing a shuttle clutch torque tube out of a I60 into my D15 II and it would be awesome if the PTO still was normal 540. how fast is the pto on a wd or a wd45? im sure they are slightly faster than 540? any one? |

| Any A-C with a shuttle clutch has a faster than normal PTO. Memory tells me 800 to 850 RPM at full throttle. A WD45 or D-17 is normally 650 ish. |

I have an I600 with a shuttle. The PTO has the 1000 rpm spline so it must be close. The DR. has it right. The PTO on my H3 crawler with a shuttle is 540 PTO. It has a rear gear box to correct the PTO to 540 unlike the tractors . ------------- Nothing is impossible if it is properly financed |
