Never would be one to make fun of losing a loved one, but as I read this, I really wish I had known him,
he had to be my kinda guy

It says laid to rest in family property. I didn't know they could still do that. But it is Gilmer county......

Yep, sounds like he would have been a fine fella to know. Bet he was the best friend you could ask for or the worst enemy you could have depending on how you treated him.

Tyler, in Georgia, unless there is a local ordinance against it, you can bury a person on your/their property, my Uncle was buried in his pasture, he wanted to be with his cattle, and my Aunt said it was where he loved to be.

Tyler, I believe most counties still permit that. There are a lot of private cemeteries around and I guess you could start a new one. I have ancestors buried all over the area where I came from, some are laid to rest in a grove of trees in the middle of a field. But to show how nitpicky some local jurisdictions can be I had a friend that lived in Athens who could not bury his dog behind his house (#&%$# city ordinance).

I assume that means the family can't ever sell the property he's buried on? At least not without exhuming him first?

Neighbour and 3 of her friends are buried  in her backyard. (cremated) Don't know if new homeowner KNOWS of them being there......
I know in Canada you can 'spread ashes' anywhere, except on private land YOU don't own.

The gravesites remain as is plus the new owners can not deny descendants access to the gravesites/cemetery. Sometimes a developer will want to relocate the gravesites but they have to go through a legal process to do so. BTW I am not an attorney nor do I play one on tv. I have not stooped that low yet.

I would never cow tow to that ignorant ordinance.  It would be a ceremony after dark if necessary.  I got some F up neighbors and I am sure the feeling is mutual.

But we ain't F up. lol

is it a family cemetery or ashes, cause in Ohio if you bury a bodiy it is to be in a cemetery with proper endowment for care of the cemetery forever.

In MO, all one has to show is that there is a plot bought.  DO NOT have to show proof of burials of Ash Urns.  My Uncle's ashes have been scattered and not saying where.  Is where he was happiest.

Old fellow I worked in a gas station for - asked me to close the station Sat**day night  work all day Sunday as he had to go to his brother in laws wake on Sat**day .
Found out later of WHY . He had his grandson drive him to funeral home but stopped at several bars on the way to have a couple drinks for old times sake, walked into funeral home - up to casket pinched the hand of his B in L , SAID - YEP HE's DEAD - now lets go and have a few more drinks in his honor .  Followed by :
He was the only one I liked out of my wife's family , most of the time including my wife.
Told him that many times and we both said one of us would celebrate when the other passed .
Monday he was back on the wagon - he drank only on occasions and not that often - said he needed to every so often to remember how bad he felt so he didn't do it again .
