OK guys. When they are running a commercial that says buy it now for $19.95, but wait, call now and get a second 1 free, just pay a special fee. They never name the fee. Is it another $19.95 for "shipping" ? Has anyone ever ordered one?

I have wondered that  very thing many times.  I am afraid to call , I would get stuck with buying it and not even know I did.

That is to prod you into buying before you stop and think that you really don't need even one. And by the time they add in the "special fees" they have charged more than the junk is worth plus they have your information so they can bug you about more junk.

One of them outfits got in big trouble for advertising the second one free, only pay shipping which turned out to be the price of the first one plus shipping.  Now it seems they get away with it by calling it a handling fee plus shipping.

Wallyworld has a section with the "As seen on TV" too.  90% of it IS junk.
Usually the 'just pay the shipping and handling' is more than the shipping on the first one, so yeah, you're paying for it.  And yeah, the $19.95 is at least $5 more than you can buy it for someplace else.

Got tasked with hauling a university professor once.......his area of expertise was marketing. A 2 hour drive.....to get there and a 2 hour drive to get back. Interesting trip.

He told me that almost all advertising is based on one of three concepts......

1. Testimonials.......(I tried it and you will like it too.....and even better if it's a celebrity you know......Marie Osmond and Joe Namath come to mind?

2. Problem, solution, happy ending. Dirty floor (problem).....here is the product (solution).....and now look at my clean floor (happy ending).

3. Urgency.....Act now before it's too late.......or......."there it is for a great price.....but wait......if you act now we will send you two for the price of one.....but you must call now"!

#3 is the "as seen on TV" products. If see one of those.....I run. Haven't seen one yet that wasn't a POS from China.

And now blended in to these concepts is the new "woke" culture. Rare to see an ad on TV these days that does not include a racial component. Bi-racial couples.....and minorities way out of proportion to demographics.

Goal is to make them seem "normal"......which in my view is itself racist.

The other that frosts my buns is the "dad" is always a dolt. Mom is smart, kids are smart, dad is not. They gotta learn him.

The new thing I see is make sure you know there gay. I really don't want to know that much about them. If that is what they want fine just don't tell me.

I have done a lot of work for a gay gal, she could be a real pain to work for, but not because of her "sexual orientation". Two older gals living in a little house,Wink kind of a guess. But being neighbor and them needing help and you see one bed kind of says. But never anything to throw it in your face like everything from hollyweed. On TV and the commercial where it is put so you have to know. Good neighbors are good neighbors, Wink and there are plenty poor ones around. Has to do with what they do................not who.

The bi-racial or minority stuff is no big deal. But why would product be better because of your Confused sexual preferences.
