| I'm just getting back into tractors after a couple years of being away from the hobby, but I moved back to the country and have the farmland to enjoy it once again. I'm partial to both IH and Allis Chalmers. My question is: the RC isn't seen or spoken of much, why such a short run and did they have any flaws or faults that they're known for. I've only seen one at a show in my life. Thanks in advance for any information |

The RC was a WC tractor with a B engine... The WC was 201 inch displacement.. The B was 116 inch displacement...... Was under powered... Most wanted BIG or SMALL, not a combo.

Actually the RC had the 125 CID engine. At that same time as the B only had the 116 CID engines. The RC as was said above was and underpowered 2 row tractor even though it had a slower rear ratio than the WC had. It's short production run and the big dis-appointment to the engineers, led to development of the Model C, with the 125 CID engine, lighter, lower cost to build 2 row tractor. After the beginning of production of the model C the B also got the 125 engine. I have a RC tractor for sale. I am currently in the process of rebuilding the original engine. If interested, PM me. I'm just below Gettysburg. I did cultivate with it a few years and it was a really nice tractor for that. I also had a round bale loader mounted on it and with the slower rear ratio and as a heavier tractor is was for picking up hay.  ------------- If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere. | I’ve read somewhere the RC was something of an interim model while the C was being developed. Definitely underpowered and cheaper in comparison to the WC, but were good for some jobs. My grandfather bought one in 39 for cultivating and sickle mowing, and he really liked it - said it was economical for what it did. He had bigger tractors for the heavy work, so it fit his operation nicely. I’d imagine if the C was out at that time, he’d have bought one of those instead. I’m fond of the RC as a collector tractor, and have a few. Pretty good parts availability for the wearable items, with some nice uniqueness. |

Pop was in business when the RC came out. I do not believe we ever sold one. As said above a WC frame with a C power plant. Way underpowered for its size. When the C came out - to me, best looking tractor Allis Chalmers made - was perfect for our area Sold a bunch.

Mine has a mid mounted cycle bar mower on it and came from ranch country in N.W. Colorado. I imagine the original owner bought it because it was available and the price was right. Would have been good for cutting raking hay in the meadows which can have wet spots. A friend has one on steel, just about as basic tractor as a guy could buy, no lights, starter, etc. does have a pto which I think was an option. |

| Welcome to the forum, as GreenOrange said it was an interim unit untill they could get the C into production. I used to own S/N 8 and still own another one, they have some unique items found only on the RC. Tom Foss has a fine example of one and wrote a interesting story about the restoration with great pictures that he shared here with us. |
