I just had a shop put on a new, made in USA throw out bearing. It was so tight right out of the package. But now you can pull the seated bearing ahead a little, and it has a wobble. But pushing the bearing back, it sits in the race and turns nice. So is this normal.
  Thanks Tim

You should not be able to pull the bearing off at all with your hands. So, that means the carrier must be worn just enough to allow this to happen. Not normal or correct.

You said it is seated (on the carrier I assume) and are only talking a bit of play in the bearing itself when you pull it in the unloaded direction, off the race, correct?   I would say that is normal for a single direction thrust bearing as it is only loaded when pushed back against the race.

How much play we talking, like less than 1/16th inch or ? Those are usually packed with a pretty stiff grease when new, I would expect a little bit of in and out after initial break-in but not much.

The bearing fits tightly on the carrier. I brought it to the local tractor shop today. He feels the bearing was pressed on way to much. He noticed marks where it was pulled back. So it crushed the inner race. The race on the very inside is the loose one. I have a Federal Mogul bearing # 2065-18 on there now. Outside diameter is much greater.
