we are looking for a good looking tractor that is recently restored to mow some pasture, Bush hog, etc.
Would love opinions of this one for sale. Also ad mentions slipping g out of thirdonce in a while. Is this a concern?
Also what’s the big difference bet series 2 and 4.

If it jumps out of gear, it will only get worse . Cost a lot to fix. MACK

They are already telling you that it jumps out of 3rd gear. Yes, this is a common problem with these tractors as stated, however the cause is operator abuse. With that being said, you have no idea of the other things that have been abused. Great paint job though and all new tires. It also have the optional transport valve and triple hydraulic valve (one is a selector and the other two operate remotes. The D15 was only made in a series 1 and 2, never a series 3 or more. the series 2 had a larger (160CID) gasoline engine. If you are serious in looking for a ready to use D15 II I have one available that has nothing wrong with it in it's work clothes. No pretty paint. I will guarantee that is does not jump out of any gears and everything works as it should. Send me a PM with you email for pictures.
------------- If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere. Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

Grew up on a D 15 series 2, they only made series 1 and 2 in the 15, the 17 goes up to series 4. Great tractor, usually popping out of a gear means they ground them while shifting. I have a CA that pops out of 3rd but I don't really use 3rd in that tractor so it is no problem for me. I love the D 15 series 2 personally, but as with any tractor, no matter what the color check it out top to bottom. Is this one factor 3ph or snap coupler.

Looks like it had an 82S mower on it at some point, paint can hide a lot 2X or more what its worth needing transmission work to be a good tractor for what you want it for.

If it stated the engine was rebuilt and it had the factory 3 point, with a drawbar, it might be worth $4K to some. JMO

Was the triple hydraulic valve an option for the D15 or an add on from another tractor like maybe the D19? I don't see the additional hydraulic outlets. Am I missing something or how does this work?

Factory option for the D-15/17. Never got outlets plumbed I guess. Lift/Lower lever gets locked up to turn on the pump, then you use the levers to the left of the seat.

Well, learned something today. Never seen a set up like this on any of the tractors at any of the shows. Neat option.

nice looking tractor, if it truly runs good and there is nothing else wrong, if your mechanically inclined. you can fix the problem for about $850-$1000. and have a good tractor, For $6000. The market on these tractors seems to change based on location and the what the seller feels it value is. you can always counter offer for the price of the repair to fix the transmission gears.sounds like its a one owner machine (for what that's worth)
not sure how many hour a year your planning to put on it.
just my 2 cents.

I think you are looking at a $2500 tractor that may need $3000 worth of work to make it worth $4000. Run away from a gear jumper with a DuPont overhaul.

I’ve never had a gear jumper, isn’t that only when going down a hill with a load and throttled back? Or do they also jump out when pulling implements? If he lives in a flat area that may not be a concern? Of course fixing it would be the right thing to do.

It's a late 1964 model with new rubber all the way around. Gear jumpers pull a plow all day long, but might jump out of gear going downhill with a push.

Looks like a good tractor. Make an offer. New rubber is a big plus. I spent $1500 on new rear tires, tubes and rims for WD45. That was 10 years ago so probably more now. Paint looks good too. That is worth a bunch. You can’t redo one yourself without spending more than he is asking.

Those ones in the ads all look good but comparing apples to oranges especially the IH which is much bigger. Other 3 are pretty comparable in size. What are you using it for? That may help to make a decision? Do you need 3pt hitch or just to pull trailer?

I'm gonna go with a DuPont Restoration. Why paint it all up pretty and do no engine work. I'm not to sure about the rubber hoses clamped on the the steel PS lines either.
That would be a pass.

The I600,basically a D15, I bought will not stay in 2nd or 3rd gear. Put it in gear and just jumps out when the clutch is released,I'm going to just put an ag rear in it from the bell housing back.

$5500 for a gear jumper is way too much regardless of how nice the paint is.

Used to be rule of thumb ten years ago to deduct $1000 for every gear it jumps out of assuming you do the repair work yourself.

The $3950 AC D15 has combine wheels a d tire that can not be adjusted for tread width. That make it unsafe for some uses in my opinion. It is also a short cut that saves lots of money when fixing a tractor. Sure makes me wonder what other short cuts were taken or what was just painted over. Unless you can get someone who knows AC tractors, and that YOU TRUST, I would say don't bother to consider it. I know nothing about the other brand, except they sure seem high to me. Paint must cost a fortune.
