Hi,

New to the site, thanks for having me. I have a D15 Gas tractor, when I give it a little throttle the engine speed does not pick up, around half throttle it just goes wide open and will not respond to the throttle lever. All I can do is turn the key off to keep it from over revving. I think the governor is not working, possibly the weights are stuck or something is broken. I checked the adjustments as per my manual and all look ok. I got this tractor from my late brothers estate. It had not been ran or out of the barn for over fifteen years, it may be why he quit using it. Would like to get it fixed, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the governor weights have fallen apart. AGCO has new ones. Might want to get new pins for them as well since the old bolts are probably worn down as well. Not a hard job to do, but you will want to find as many of the broken pieces as possible.

Also make sure the rod going from the governor is securely connected to the carburetor. If it falls out, the engine can over rev.

The most common problem with these is the cross arm is not adjusted properly. If you remove the rod from the cross arm, the link should be just a tiny bit too short when the hand control is wide open and the carburetor butterfly is also wide open.
