my dad and I put new brakes on his CA a few years ago, i know they are manual, but i feel almost zero stopping power, especially if im moving (I can hold it on a hill but stopping even on flat ground is hard) i have locked them up on wet clay, but I just feel like they arent working like they should, any ideas? is it normal or are they out of adjustment or possibly something wrong with them? |

| Could the brakes have been locked on and the tractor driven that way? What kind of lining material? Rick, on this forum, relined the bands for my CA a couple of years ago with an original looking material and they work fine. The material looked like a sort of woven pattern. Are the brakes adjusted properly? |

| Sounds odd because I can use the split brake to turn my tractor around in our fields when the fronts are pushing. Should be able to lock them up hard. |

look inside the tin cover and you can see a screwdriver slot bolt.. You tight that up for adjustment... snug, then back off a couple turns... another way to do it is to push on the foot pedal and see if it hits the square tube and STOPS the travel.. If your stroke is too much, then tighten the screwdiver slot bolt so the pedal does not hit the STOP... you should have full brakes BEFORE the pedal hits the bottom ( square tube)... If the adjustment is OK, then the brakes have transmission fluid leaking on them and causing them to slip. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

| we have adjusted them, and they were exactly 0% better than the old shoes, i have locked one wheel up in pavement and wet clay, but i had almost zero traction to begin with, im very confused, maybe the shoe material we got isnt good? at this rate, if i gotta stop i just shut it off if im on a hill more than about 5 degrees, and this reminds me, i found out 3rd gear has almost no engine braking lol, was fun tho |
