The White rotary combine came from MF.  Massey had a prototype model that operated out of the dealer in Independence, Iowa in the Fall of 1979. Story goes, a customer of theirs had a bad failure of his 760 combine and it had to hauled into the shop. They brought him out this prototype rotary to use for a few days while they fixed his 760. After a couple of days of nothing but trouble the customer called them and told them to hurry it up on getting the 760 running, this rotary ain't getting much done.  When MF went broke a yr or two later, White had control of that combine. When White went broke many yrs later Massey got it back.

At the 1991 Dalton City, IL Farm Progress Show, I viewed the newest combines picking wet corn in the field harvest demo. That spring’s heavy rains had delayed the show’s planting of an early maturing hybrid used for field harvest demos. Anyway most combine’s were successfully threshing the wet grain (30+ percent), except the White Rotary combine. It’s chopper was doing most of the threshing - right into the crowd’s faces and then onto the field. The White field crews were on foot & using walkie-talkies to ask combine operator for adjustments on the go, which resounded into the show’s crowd over-hearing all of the crews frustration & arguing over what was wrong.

In 1992 or 1993 (maybe 1991) I was at the Farm Fest demos near Austin MN. That year was known as the 40/40 year. Corn was 40% moisture and 40% test weight. There was an R62 I think or R60, a Deere 9600 some CaseIH was there but left before I got there and a New Holland TR?. The New Holland parked. As I said, the Case left and the Deere run back to nearby dealership and came back with a bean head and started on beans across the road which no one paid attention to. The R Gleaner was peeling the corn off and doing a reasonable job. Not much left on the ground and just a little damage. The others just ground it up.

Very interesting articles!  Thank you for posting.

I was able to find this image of the first article, but I don't think I have made enough posts to add a photo yet.
