Pretty sure a boat becomes a ship at about 200 feet, or 60 meters. Might have something to do with displacement also.

In the Navy, there's that, plus if it has a permanent crew and commanding officer, it's usually a ship regardless, whereas smaller craft launched from the ship would be boats.

A boat can be carried aboard a ship but a ship can not be carried aboard a boat. What I want to know is why great lakes freighters are all boats and some are 1000ft long?

I never heard the 200/60 thing, but your last statement was how it was explained to me by a Navy lifer

Must be a regional thing. Always heard em called boats here. One person even went so far as to say they weren't ships but I didn't nail him down on why.

You are right Clay, vessels would be proper name but who cares about that.

In official gubmit double talk with forked tongue jargon my guess would be MV Edmond Fitzgerald. The mv being marine vessel, I know fv is fishing and sv is sailing.

You have to watch any e-mail also to see if it has a file attached also - and UNLESS YOU KNOW who that file is from - and even then careful opening it .
I had one mail and when I went to double check the mail address when right clicking on address it opened - didn't even wait to try to shut down with power button - I unplugged the computer - stopped it dead , - when I restarted after virus program found a bunch of junk to delete but luckily no damage done .
