I was looking for a cylinder & piston kit for an IHC C146 gas engine.  Best price I could find was $1,200+.  Seems like they were in the $400-$500 range a few years ago, OK maybe 15 years ago, still that price seems way too high.  Just whining but will take advice of other places to look.

John,
That may be about right. The Allis WD45 kit was around $800 2 years ago.
Regards,
 Chris

Kind of related, big truck diesels are out of sensible range these days.  Associate in OK works heavy machines, was going to Overhaul a KT series Cummins and got a Parts Price list up for a INFRAME, $22,800 in PARTS ONLY.  Standard old 855 BC1 or 2 Cummins will set a truck herder back almost $22,000 parts and labor to overhaul, if exchange reman engine are OVER $14,000 plus a core, PLUS the labor to swap and diagnose.

These are outrageous where when I was wrenching the average overhaul was less than $8,000 out the door.

All four cylinders are rusty in that engine but I might see if it will clean up at the price for a kit!
I cleaned up the engine this afternoon.  It looks a lot better then I thought it would.  I think I'll pull the pistons, lightly hone it and maybe put on new rings.  The pistons look very good, I'm wondering if it had been rebuilt but had a bad head gasket or something.  The adventure continues...
