Just changed the alternator on my 170, now I have to high of voltage. I will replace the regulator, any opinion on what to use, solid state vs manual. The alternator is a 1100735 Delco, at 1500rpms it is putting out 17 volts. Thanks for all your help.

17 volts is too high!  Will cook the battery!  But do not use a modern digital meter to measure this, as they do not read properly due to electrical interference!!! Use an old style moving needle pointer meter instead.
AC 170 had some wiring, starter, charging system changes during the time of production, you will need to find the serial number of the 170 to get the proper starter and charging system parts or part nos. from your Agco dealer.

Make sure your VR is grounded correctly. Also, make sure you don't have a wire pinched or rubbed through somewhere in the harness. When a ground is introduced to the system somewhere, the VR ramps up the Alt to compensate for the load causing a overcharge condition.  HTH

Make sure your VR is grounded correctly. Also, inspect the wiring for a rub through or a pinched wire. Introducing a ground to the system will make the VR ramp the Alt up trying to overcome the load. We have the correct VR in stock for that 735 Delco if interested.
Check those conditions first though...
