I'm changing the fuel lift pump on my new to me 160 with a loader because i think it is either weak or has internal blockage. But the lines and connections are confusing me. Inlet and outlet threads seem to be 5/16" flare threads, the line going into the bowl is a 5/16 compression and the line coming out of the pump is a 1/4" flare. Tried putting them back on it as is but leaks terribly at both connections just with gravity. Previous owner apparently got them to not leak by inserting small o-rings (one of which may be what's blocking the flow.) Looking into the inlet and outlet it doesn't look like it should work with flare or compression without a special fitting of some sort. Parts diagram isn't much help. So should they both be compression (with the brass ferrule) or both be flared, and what fittings should be used? Any advice or pictures would be appreciated!
Thanks,
John

I had the same problem on my 175 - also a Perkins engine. From the tank I used a flare nut with a ferule and that held good. Just couldn't get the outlet line to the filter to seal up. I did try a new rubber O ring on the line and that seemed to do the trick.
Funny how the compression fitting only works on one side. Must be a British thing?

Ok, those answers help put me on the right track. Where can those Perkins seals be found? What i pulled out of the outlet on the pump looked kind of like those.
Thanks for the help, i need my loader back in operation!

Try a diesel fuel injection repair shop if you have one near you or call some of the vendors that support this site.
