I have no idea "what happened",, but I'm sure something very serious happened with our #3 Son's GF down in Texas 2-3 weeks ago,,,,,He told me that she came home from her job as an educator at the college and told him she wanted to learn how to handle one, then go buy one and then get a concealed carry permit for the gun she was gonna buy,,,,,,,,, Now, this is a 40 ish mother of one, who has never been exposed to guns of any kind, as her parents were also never gun owners,,,,?? He would not tell me what happened with her,,but they both now have CCP's. Heck of a world out there now,,ain't it,,?

I’m also working on getting my ccp. We’re open carry in Arkansas. I don’t leave home without it.
Had a couple jobs that the home owners didn’t want to see it. I leave it in my truck and respect their wishes.

Well,I always have my 9mm whenever we go out of town ,,,and I'm gonna have to stop puttin it off to get my CCP..Jon told me their class was a 1/2 day thing in Texas. I think NM is two separate days,,,either way I want to get one. It is awful hard to believe all the chit that is going on in our country and those perps never seem to land in jail,,Do They?
At one time all those BS things used to be against the law, but with a justice system in shambles,,you're just gonna have to protect your own family on your own.  Bad business,,guys,,bad business.

Aclimate of fear and uncertainty drove Americans to gun stores in record numbers last month, setting the FBI’s all-time high for background checks processed.

According to the agency, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, conducted 3.9 million gun  https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/nics_firearm_checks_-_month_year_by_state_type.pdf/view" rel="nofollow - background checks  in June, the highest volume since it began operating in 1998. The figure eclipses the previous high set in  https://www.thetrace.org/2020/04/coronavirus-gun-background-check-record-nics/" rel="nofollow - March  of this year, and is 71 percent higher than the total from June 2019.

Have had a CCL for a few years now, do not often carry but when know going to a bad area do.  Have only pulled a firearm on a criminal once in inner city, LONG ago and well before CC License was allowed in STL.  Guy walked up as I left work at midnite, said needed a dollar, told him No Money he kept insisting then pulled a knife.  I at the time carried a Ruger Wheel gun Stainless so showed out bright and huge in the dark street, he recognized the cocking noise and dropped the blade.  Was ambling down the street when I dropped a round at a nearby junk pile, he went in lightspeed at that point.  Bad point was seated in my car when did so, may be part of the deafness I suffer today!!

Well,,,we ARE starting to see some people especially blacks, talking out about the wrongness of all the rioting and unrest in the inner cities, yet the justice dept seems to be MIA,,Those honest police do manage to arrest some of the looters,,,only to watch dishonest DA's and mayors release them back into society to commit even more crimes,,,,I sure hope the honest majority of people are paying attention to WHO stands for liberty, freedom, AND the rule of law and WHO stands for lawlessness,,,,and vote accordinglyClap

Thankfully I have never had to discharge mine at anyone but if the need arises I will do so without hesitation. I have had a ccp since I was 18. Now I carry one just about all the time even in some places that have the gun free (read unarmed victim) zone signs posted.
As Tracy said - "Choose sides wisely! It ain't going to be pretty."

when i was a Deputy...i did hafta draw down on a person once...that was a hellofva feeling...undescribable! to say my insides were shaking was a  feeling all it's own...thank God i didn't hafta shoot that person! i have coffee in the mnings (well used to until the covid thing started) that carry, the weapon in observable on their person. we have sat at different locations and have had persons come into the stores where we were, when they saw the weapons, they left without buying anything, i'm pretty safe to say that those persons were prolly there to rob the store, as none of them were locals, and were never seen again. several coffee places the female clerks carry and make sure the customers see they do...so far no problems, and hope it continues that way. one day a lady came in to one of the stores...and was digging into her pockets for cash, she brought out her weapon and laid it on the counter while digging in her pockets...she has been banned from the store now just because of the reckless way she handled her weapon. Joe...make sure what your DIL learns sticks with her and she doesn't get trigger happy! i let my certification expire, but may go and get it again...haven't decided yet.

Yeah,,Guys,,and it just keeps gettin more and more worrisome,,,,, I guess, what worrys me more is WHAT must of happened or WHAT she though might happen to make her think she had to carry a weapon. She is prolly the very first person of their family to want to carry as Jon told me she had to really talk fast to convince her parents of the need for her safety. I surely hate to think people fear of what may be coming but the fbi has released statistics of the HUGE uptick of people applying for the CCP permits,,,,,

DJ, the numbers of crimes against people is going up. With the insanities of these BLM'rs and others, the koooks are coming out of the woodwork.  Just driving through a town, you might get stopped by a bunch of them ugly pussies that want to smash your windows in, Not good... an then some punk might pull out a gun and tries to shoot you just because he is a doper or just plain dopey. Crazies these days. Just unreal.
... and I think that before the election is over, these crazies will be getting far worse and start displaying their antics in homes too. jmo
So as they say, always be prepared... You never know when schit happens.

The ding bat in charge here is letting more and more out of jail on the save them from covid card. The people are so stupid 2 years ago they voted in a "prison reform" that rape was not a violent crime in most cases to let a bunch of them out of jail.

Moving to a no bail system of justice,so 99% of all arrested are out in 4 hours again. Fast coming to shoot the bad guys is the only way to get them put away. But I suppose a never been in trouble before white guy could spend the rest of their live in jail.

If you are going to carry you need to TRAIN. There are several videos related to the church shooting at White Settlement, Texas that give some good insight. Here is one I pulled up on You Tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8zhh6yDHus" rel="nofollow - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8zhh6yDHus
Chit happens fast, this whole thing was over in about 6 seconds.

this is presently the problem with the RIOTS , Criminal Activity and Looting... as long as you dont SHOOT anyone, your back on the street by supper time !!!    NO RESPONSIBILITY.

I can't reiterate enough what Dale said enough, if it doesn't give you great pause to take a life, you need to do some rethinking, taking a life is serious business. even if it is a scumbag! I have had my carry for about half my life, and, I carry just about everywhere, sign or no sign. And, I would absolutely shoot in self defense, or, defense of another near me, but it would bother me.   Get the training and keep it in mind.

I just bought a new gun today, six hours for the Pa state "instant" background check, they are that backed up! and, no ammo on the shelves!

Joe I pray it is a happy ending with your son's GF!

Hubert and Lou are spot on. There is more than being granted the right to conceal carry. We did some classes at the farm years ago and I talked with the instructor about how it troubled me the people that had never shot a firearm would get their concealed carry permit and then go buy a firearm. As bad as I hate government regulation it seemed to me there should be some basic firearm handling training first and then concealed carry permit. I am glad she wants to get her permit but it can’t stop there she needs to shoot her preferred firearm on a regular basis. And she needs to go through scenarios about what she would do if confronted in a situation.

OH,,I feel the same concerns but I know She has one of the best instructors in My Son. I did not know this but he has had his CCP for goin on 5 years and is very level headed. I just don't worry bout him. They have been going shooting in the foothills every weekend since she got her CCP and Jon says she is a natural at handling guns. Of coarse he has been huntin with me starting at age 10 so he knows what the business end of the weapon can and will do,,,,,,,,

I recently changed my carry to a double stack 9.
I handled several before I made my choice.
I handle it several times a day to create muscle memory. I don’t mess with others much as to mess up my familiarity.
Been going to the range with a coworker once or so a week.
It’s hard to practice knowing I can’t replace what I shoot.
I’m juggling between practice and ammo saving.
I feel like revolvers are a good start for beginners they tend to be much more similar.

Thad, I don't quite follow your thoughts.  Mine and the missus carry are 380 auto's.  All you gotta do is move the safety to fire and pull the trigger.

Jenny and I both carry 9’s .
I recently changed and the safety is completely different than my old one.
Very easy to do but I’m not sure how easy it would be if some gangbanger knocked the window out of my truck and got ahold of my throat while being stuck in traffic
Or even if someone kicks my door in at 2am and I’m half asleep. I want to remember by nature what gun I have in my hand.
I don’t carry one chambered.

Many years ago before shot shells came in plastic cups, I liked to go in barns at night and shoot sparrows and starlings, using a large flashlight and BB gun.
I bought a used .22 revolver and had the rifling removed so it was more like a shot gun, and used .22 bird shot in it.
That worked vary nice and didn't do any damage to the buildings.
I still have it, and have not fired it for a long time.

HMmm,,Thad what is a double stacked 9? While I have a few .22 pistols stashed around the place,,I feel more secure with a 9mm by my bed for the knockdown over a .22. Now,,my son likes the .45,,but he is a mite bigger than me,,,,Wink With all the boys, I started them on single shot .22's and shotguns, so they knew they better make the first shot be good else the game is going over the hill. A gun with an empty chamber is kinda like an inferior club.

All of mine that or either carried or stashed are locked and loaded.

Lou, I fully agree with what you say about taking a life. It is a very traumatizing event and I hope I never have to do it but I have also settled in my mind that if one of my family, one of my friends, an innocent bystander or me is threatened with bodily harm that without hesitation that is the action I will take. I did have to pull my firearm once about 50 years ago but the 5 that were approaching my vehicle decided that what they intended wasn't worth the risk and hauled azz.

I purchased a new firearm just before Christmas and all I had to do was present my ccp card, sign a couple of forms, pay for it and walk out the door with it. It is sitting in my safe and hasn't been fired yet. But I was training with my carry gun on a regular basis until ammo got in short supply so now I have to conserve.
