Back the late 60's I was a young kid helping on the farm. We grain farmed 140 acres with a D17 and a little C. The C was my tractor and the 17 was what Dad used. Then we got another 120 acres to farm and it was to much. Because Dad worked a full time job and I was in grade school. So my Dad bought a WD that my uncle found from a dealer that was selling it for the repair bill on the over haul job. A famer had it and wanted it rebuilt but when he seen the price he told them to keep it. It was long ago but I remember my Dad giving $450 for it. I got the D17 to plow with then and Dad took the wd. We both plowed with 4x14 plows. I have always wondered what that WD had in it to be able to out perform the 17. If it got hard plowing I would have to go to low third in the 17 and here would come the WD and Dad would pass me at the end of the field. The WD would faster in third then the 17 and it never did pull down or get hot, it was just light in the front end sometimes.

bemer848,
Welcome!
Must have had a D17 engine installed in that old WD or a darn good 45 engine?? Very interesting story. Thanks for sharing!
Regards,
 Chris
