Hi everyone. Does anyone have an idea how many acres per hour a 200 with four bottom 16" model 2000 plow can do. Probably be in 2nd low. It has 34" rears on it. And it's level ground and its sod, hay field. Thanks for the comments in advance

I find the monoframe plow speed sensitive,,,I pull 6 16 with my 200 38'" rear tires 3 low and that is as fast as the plow wants to go...to do a nice level job that is,,, and not wide open, more like 2350 rpm or a bit less IIRC

MACK you are correct sandy ground, plow very little actually, just to get rid of a hay field...used to pull 8 - 16 on land with 210 dual 18.4 x 38 in 5th ...heavy alfalfa had to drop to 4th, would carry front wheels all the way down the field

4-14's on a D-17. fully mounted. did a decent job but carried the front end. Plowing cost me tons and tons of topsoil, when it rained!

If your AC 200 can average 4mph plowing speed, then theoretically it could achieve the following; Length is 4mph x 5280’/hr = 21.120’/hr. Width is 4bottom plow x 16”/bottom = 64”(5.33’) Acreage is 21,120’x5.33’/43,560=2.58 acres. That doesn’t include any headland turn travel time, And, the 4mph is after wheel slippage being factored in.

2nd low max speed with 18.4-38 rear tires is 3.9mph. So not going to make anyway near 4mph with 34” tires in 2nd low. Might though in 2nd high?

By the time I did headlands, turns, dead furrows, wedges on weird corners, etc., I always figured on about 2 acres per hour on average to get a "whole field done" with 4 16's. Though while going on the straight is faster than that, the inefficiencies really add up.

We always figured about 2 acres per hour with 38” & running 3rd low on small fields ~5 acres. Make a little better time when fields are longer. Try not to plow that much now and burry the disc deeper if needed.

Thanks for that info, I was beginning to think that I was "off" on my memories as to how many hours were spent turning over 35 acers back then .

Thanks guys. Hate to say this is for the enemy. One of the fields we bale is getting developed and they asked for a price to plow twenty foot sections every fourty feet.

my dad taught me ground speed times width will give acres covered in 10 hour day. always works out pretty close. i have used over 40 years.

Amos. Do you still have the 8 x16" on land A-C plow ? That is a rare piece now ! I have a 7 x 16" on land semi mount model 3000 mono frame.

4 bottom plow will most likely be a mess with 20ft length?? That is some short lengths, smaller than a garden. Do you know why they may want it plowed?

Hi Kevin It's 20ft wide skip 40ft then another 20ft wide across whole field. It's so they can do a archeological study. See if any Indians are buried

And what if they're all in the 40' unplowed strips of land?

Where do you live? Around here they just throw up houses, no archeological study required. One place we rented got sold to a developer last year.

There has been no "plowing" done "here" in this area for at least 20 years. 5 years ago a BTO attempted plowing 1 fall with I assume were "steering wheel turners", the end result was "not" a pretty sight as far as level/straight furrows, let alone what the dead-furrows looked like .It's becoming a lost art I'm afraid .

Howdy Mikes I’ll agree with Tbone95 on regular jobs but on those strips prolly you’d do better

It is a lost art. We pull 8-18s with two 850 Versatiles...we do about 200 acres every year..I still love plowing

Thanks. It's a shame to see more land going to development. As for the straight lines. The guy that's haveing me do it put piece of orange ribbon in tree branch at 80' on each side of field so just eye balled it, but then the wanted the extra strip in between each pass so them ones were just by eye.
