Hey everyone. The d17 I picked up had a broken PTO lever so I plan on welding a new lever made form steel later today or this weekend. I’ll be using damp rags or air to cool down in between welds to so that it won’t burn the o ring. The pto thankfully was engaged on so curious as which way approximately the lever would be facing on the engaged position. Any pics would be great. Thanks |

My father's D17 IV PTO level broke off. Family friend (used to work at an A-C dealership as a mechanic) welded it and 40 years later, the O-ring started leaking so I replaced it. Not sure how the welder kept the heat off the O-ring, if done at all. Good luck. |

| You'd be doing yourself a big favor to tack weld something to the shaft and get it to the disengaged position. |

It's impossible to weld and not melt the O ring! Take the rest of the handle out, weld it then put on a NEW O ring and put everything back together. Thanks Mack Yea a few of my friends have welded them back on and as long as they keep it cool between tacks they say they never had any problems. I need to weld mine to have my pto stop spinning. Any idea which way the lever faces engaged? I need to weld it engaged and then after that move it in the 12 o’clock position for disengage. I don’t remember if it’s 9-10 or 2-3 o’clock for engaged. |

Engaged: from memory and guess, about at the 10:30 clock orientation. But I can give you a good answer tomorrow if you want. |

Thanks Stan. I appreciate that. I’ll wait to weld tomorrow. Worst case is doesn’t work and it will get split this winter when I freshen it up and paint it. I mainly just want to disengage the pto for the summer and fall. |
