Was moving bales on the 3 point last night an out of the blue, no reverse. All forward gears seem fine and no odd noises. Right in the thick of haying season, so i don't know when i will get to look at it. Just looking for thoughts, simple or major repair. You have a broken shift fork. Take the top off remove fork and have it grazed I did mine last winter. Hardest part was getting floor panels off mine had nuts on the bottom the nut plates were broken on three hardest to get to.had my teenage son hold the wrench up by the transmission the easy to get to bolts still had nut plates. Don't lose the ball when you take the shifter shaft out. . |

| Special dowel bolts on the shift cover go in the front left and right rear corners. Remove and install shift cover with tranny shifted into SECOND (3-4) gear.. |

| When you are pulling the shift shafts out push a socket that just fits in as you push the shaft out it'll hold the ball and spring compressed when you push the shaft back in it pushes the socket back out. After you loose the ball they are 3/8" diameter. I had to get a bag of them none could be found localy. I have 24 extras in my stash. |

It is a broken shift fork. I got a replacement from local salvage yard. Turns out to be wrong. I have a early model tractor with a late model transmission according to casting numbers on the shift fork i broke. ------------- Allis Express '65 190XT, 37 B, '72 170, '83 8030, and the IH 560 was a mistake |

| ALL 190XT's were to have the transmission updated by your local dealership. No 190's, just XT's. |

| They weren't as high of a priority as the turbo diesel. Do the turbo diesels first and then the gassers. Some dealerships may have had a dozen to do. |

| I prefer to replace instead of weld, but if a new fork wasn't on hand, it got welded. They usually break in the flat smooth area just above the fingers and it is easily welded with a rod made for cast iron/cast steel welding.. That's a somewhat special rod and all I ever used. Pre-heating the area a bit with a torch is a good idea. |

| Local blacksmith that did mine brazen welds shifter forks hes done hundereds for many obsolete machines never had one returned. Mine had been previously welded poorly when I took it apart. |

My 180 broke a shift fork, took me better part of two hours to fish out the chunks as found the Second one broken when pulled. |
