 We used the 5040 yesterday to bush hog down the road. Found this little gem this afternoon. So I am in the market for some new rear tires. What brands do y’all recommend? I googled the tire size and it has Armstrong’s on it now but we use this tractor a lot and I don’t mind putting money into a nice set of tires as long as they will last.

I left the farm just as radial tractor tires were becoming common, but for bias tires, I recall Goodyear Power Torque were excellent long lasting tires. Not sure if available now. ------------- I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science. |

OUCH.... but the tire looks like it has been dieing of a slow death prior to being POKED ?... Time for some new skins !.. Quite a few are made overseas in India or China these days. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

Normally a LOCAL Farm/ Tire store will be the best bet because they can INSTALL also.

I worked in a tire shop for a couple years as a kid. You can't beat the Firestone radial 23. If its a field tractor that's the best tire, but if it's a mowing tractor I would put a boot in the tire and just keep what you have on there. A lot of people will buy new tires for the mowing tractor and end up getting thorns and more garbage stuck in the tire. A new tires rubber is softer and soaks up the thorns/garbage where the older harder rubber deflects it. If you’re going to mow and need new tires I would go cheap heavy ply( that also helps with side wall flex in the ditches). This information is from 20 years ago, but hopefully it's still a little relevant for you. Make sure you specify your intent for the tractor when you’re at the tire shop.

| I just checked with 1 of my old tire suppliers. If I remember right those had 13.6x28 tires on the rear. They only show Mitas brand tires in stock. They should cost you around $350.00 each put on the tractor at your local mom and pop tire shop. You should put new tubes in them. I sold 2 sets of them when I was in the tire business. They had a very heavy casing. |

| Tom you are right I checked tractorhouse and it’s says 13.6-28 but I have 14.9-28 I checked with my tire guy this morning Firestone’s will be $417 and Harvest King will be $477 each. Should I drop back to the stock size? |

This tractor is usually our “go to” tractor we use it with the 6’ bush hog and we either rake or Tedder hay with it . And we usually keep the yard tool on it to dress the riding ring at the horse barn. The tire casings have splits in them and I figured it was time for tires the cleats still look good but I don’t like the splits in the casings.

Everyone on these forums are trying always playing the poor card and think the can get a top notch tire for ramen noodle prices. I’ve bought cheap tires before and it doesn’t pay. | Red,. I sold a lot of both of those brands. I am wondering which Firestone he is pricing you that is cheaper than a Harvest King. Harvest King used to be made by Kelly. I worked with the H K tire engineers on a project. They had a good tire. If you decide to go with H K, get their 6 ply. If the bigger size is working for you, I'd stick with it. That split in the Armstrong is typical for them. It's time to replace them. |

I also run Firestone tires. I put new ones on the CA 22 years ago and they are still in great shape. Very little checking and the CA sits out side 90% of the time. ------------- Thanks & God Bless Dennis |

You should be able to get good selection on those size tires. The really small sizes in Ag style are pricey because I don't think there are many being sold anymore. ------------- 1951 B, 1937 WC, 1957 D14, -- Thanks and God Bless |

| Finally got the tires replaced on the 5040 today. The tires were Firestone SAT II 23 6 ply. Got them for $400 a piece new tubes for $31 a piece. Labor to mount and fill with antifreeze was $105. Total bill was $1092.94 . Got the tractor back to the farm and dropped the air pressure they had 30psi in them dropped them to 16psi. 16 seem to have better contact with the ground. |

| Glad to see she is up and running. As stated above, if the dealership did not let them sit around and harden up they might have a problem with thorns or stubble. We always ordered our stock of rears in Dec, usually several loads of them. Took delievery the first week of Jan. Left them sit outside for several months. |

| You won't regret buying those Firestones! I thought they were quoting you the 'traction field and road' prices, but I think that's a great price for the 'super all traction' those are a step up and a better tire. For exact tire pressure it should be in the label on the side of the tire. HG6GTOM is a good guy to have around it always helps when you have someone that can point you in the right direction! |

I just want my tractors to have working tires when I want to use them. I don't do daily work nor are they worked hard, usually! I always watch CL, but I have seen them on FB Marketplace now that it has started. The used tires I find are very good usable tires. They usually have weather checking but are not green or brittle black when I go look at them. The last pair I bought were taken off for new tires because he didn't want to have a failure while in the field, probably 90% tread. I've noticed some around here now, but I don't need any. If you are not picky, check it out. ------------- D14, D17, 5020, 612H, CASE 446 |
