Which engine would you pick of these 2- '07 5.4 w/4 valves (I thought that engine had 3 ?) or a '08 w/6.?? V 10? Both trucks are 250's, 4x4's, automatics and service bodies, they're even the same color !! I'm just curious is all, I've been watching them more and more as my current buggy is getting A LOT of miles on it ('05). What surprised me was there was a fleet of 250's painted a HIDEOUS pea green color that has 6 speed STICKS , they were '07-'09 models , strange pattern- r was left and up ?? Thanks

The 5.4 V8 from up to 2004 was a 2 valve motor.. Decent but a little low on HP.. In 2005 they put Variable Cam Timing (phasers) on the motor with 3 valves to increase HP and efficiency... Lots of SPARE PARTS on the timing chains, tensioners , phasers, solenoids, etc.. Not one of their "better" ideas..... The V10 is a 6.8 liter motor, just 2 more cylinders on the 5.4... Good motor... after 2005 it was upgraded to the 3 valve heads with more HP, but did NOT get the VCT system.......... That could be a big advantage on a motor over 100K miles.. compared to the 5.4
------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s.

What are you going to do with it? Neighbor has a 5.4 in a 250,great gas mileage but way low on power to pull a trailer. Maybe your part of the world is flat so not as big a deal. But here there is always a big mountain to get over.

Haven't you learned by now the the main problem with those things is circled right there on the grill and Fords are ForOnlyRacingDownhill
------------- If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere. Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

While working for the car dealership, I was the finance manager. We financed both vehicals and repairs. I financed more ford 5.4 motor replacements than any other brand. Cam phasers, head replacements, etc. If I were you, I would find out if it has been replaced. If not, I'd look for another newer unit. Ford should have recalled every 5.4 and 6.0 and repaired/replaced them at Ford's expense.

Not doubting your v 10 statement as I've never been around one, but I can't believe the government would allow such a "guzzler" to get loose out of the factories lot ??

I'll pick a V10 over a 6.0L DIESEL on ANY DAY OF THE WEEK... Basically same fuel economy (comparing dollars-per-mile) and fewer repairs... and having 10 cylinders, when it spits a spark plug or has a bad coil, you still have 7 or so left!!!
That all being the case, the 7.3L diesel, the 300 inline six, the 351W would be higher on my list...
but yeah, the 454... or a very mild 502 with a very strong transmission, in a 1-ton chassis...
