what I know...it  should be easy...
have paperwork ( bill of sale)
and
POWERWASH it good at a 'car wash'

spend $10 ? 20$ ?? get 100% of it good and soapy to get any dirt and bugs off it.

Bought one there 20 years ago, no problem. That said, a lot has changed and now with covid I would really check before I bought.

Above comments are correct. Have brought tractors from Canada a couple times and being AC's were produced in USA, there wasn't any complications

I've brought some back from Canada to the US.  The cleaning issue is for dirt not oil and grease, and I think that is mainly going into Canada, They never looked at what I was bringing in.  I was never asked for a Bill of Sale.  You MUST have a passport.  With the Covid and the state of the States, Canada may not let you in.  I came in from Sarnia to Port Huron, and the biggest deal was when all the young Border guys started jumping up on the trailer to look at the D12 I was toting.  It was a very uneventful trip!

I bought a grainhead in Canada over the winter. Dealer said if your used to it goes good if not it can be hell. For what I could save doing myself it wasn’t worth the potential headache.

Since I live about 5 miles from the Canadian border and collect AC tractors I have imported quite a few (probably 20 or more in the last few years). Normally, it's very easy, except right now is not "normal".

In normal times, importing an American or Canadian built tractor involves having a valid, legibly signed bill of sale (with contact information), a readable serial number (I heard  a story about a guy that got to customs with a tractor that the serial number had been ground off. I heard that did not go well !), a clean tractor (no soil) and it has to be for your own use.

I have never imported a tractor for someone else, but I think you have to go through a Customs Broker to import, if it's not for your own use.

I have had different experiences at four different border crossing points near me (Ogdensburg, Massena, Fort Covington and Trout River, all in NY State). The experiences vary from filling out a (very simple) form and a pretty thorough inspection of truck, trailer and tractor, to a question of "Is this for your own use?", then "Have a good day".

Now for the bad news. It is not "normal times". The border is presently closed both ways unless you are an essential worker crossing to go to, or from work, a commercial truck driver with a load going to, or coming from, Canada, or a "close relative" visiting close family, who agrees to quarantine for 14 days after arrival in Canada. (Check US and Canda Customs websites for the latest up-to- date restrictions)

As for importing a tractor right now, I'm not sure if it's possible, but I expect you would have to buy it sight unseen and hire a commercial trucker to import it for you.
