| Is it "possible" to install the "latest/greatest" auto-steer technology on the old horses ? I really have no idea how the new stuff works, but I seem to recall pictures of o "gizmo" mounted to a steering column with a wheel that turned the actual steering wheel but that was a LONG time ago in a S/F or P/F magazine in the early '80's LOL !! |

Don't know about applications but the first one I drove had the little wheel against the steering wheel. I think the accuracy was a foot or so, newer ones are down to an inch. ------------- 1945 C, 1949 WF and WD, 1981 185, 1982 8030, unknown D14(nonrunner) |

IIRR, there is a write up on an affordable auto-steer system, in either the last issue, or the one before, of farm show magazine. | I have an ontrac 3 agleader with a compass display in my 7060. A gear ring clamps to the steering wheel and a motor goes around it and snaps on. It’s really accurate compared to the ontrac2 or 2+. It will stay less than 4” at 7mph and closer yet at slower speeds. It was around $5000 for everything though. It will literally go on about anything with a steering wheel though. |

Not sure if mounting brackets are available for 100/200 series if not I’m sure one could be made. This week been pricing a kit from Trimble to go on my 8030. To get accuracy good enough for tillage or fertilizer spreading sounds like $3500 ish to get planting accuracy sounds like $4500 ish. Wheelman Pro are sub $4000. Could it be potentially financially feasible on older tractors? My answer yes. | I use a 1500. dollar Trimble 500 EZ steer unit on my Agco planting tractor. Is it perfect, no . Is it better than I can do, maybe. But it’s pretty darn close. I can put it on my New Holland 4 WD. Or my Gleaner R66 combine, or a 190, or a D17. The fact is ,the more you spend the better the results. But yes, you can make auto steer systems work with old iron. |

Funny you should mention the D series  , I was curious about them also LOL!!Just "what" is involved "tractor-wise" as far as adding the auto-steer BELOW the "globe"; plumbing/electrical etc. ?? How does it physically steer a tractor ??
