I was passed by 2 guys on Harleys on the interstate. Every time the guy on the smaller one got over 65 mph the darn thing shook violently side to side. I wonder if he had a bent front wheel? I followed them at a distance. They got of the interstate and I hope headed for the local Harley shop. Don't know how the guy kept it upright.

Later bikes, late 1990s to mid 2000s had a swing arm cracking failure in the rear, those would do that.

BSA's didn't need a cracked swing arm, the shaking and rattling and vibrations came built in straight from the factory! In fact, one could probably have a cracked swing arm and ride for a year and not know it! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

The HoundDawgs just rattle up and down and vibrate to make you teeth rattle

(Lucas was a BIG supplier of electrical components for British cars / trucks / motorcycles--- they were NOT known for their quality !!)
Lucas the Prince of Darkness - Not many people know that Land Rovers attempted to market a computer. Why did they stop? They could not find a way to get it to leak oil!
- A Land Rover doesn´t leak oil, it marks it´s territory. Did you hear about the man whose Land Rover didn't leak oil? The factory took it backand worked on it until it did.
- Did you hear the one about the guy that peeked into a Land Rover and asked the owner "How can you tell one switch from another at night? They all look the same. " - "He replied, "It does not matter which one you use, nothing happens !"
- The Lucas motto: "Get home before dark."
- Lucas is the patent holder for the short circuit.
- Lucas - Inventor of the first intermittent wiper.
- Lucas - Inventor of the self-dimming headlamp.
- The three position Lucas switch - Dim, Flicker and Off.
- The Original Anti-Theft Device - Lucas Electrics.
- >Lucas is an acronym for Loose Unsoldered Connections and Splices
- Lucas systems actually uses AC current; it just has a random frequency.
- "I have had a Lucas pacemaker for years and have never had any trou..."
- If Lucas made guns, wars would not start.
- A friend of mine told everybody he never had any electric problems with his Lucas equipment. Today he lives in the countryside, in a large manor with lots of friendly servants around him an an occasional ice cold shower...
- Back in the 70's, Lucas decided to diversify its product line and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which did not suck.

Ya Steve I had several Beezers, and yes, everything you say about Lucas is true! Had a lot of fun on them, but never for very long. Between Lucas and the fact that they loved to shed parts......

Dang! That's some funny stuff!!!!
Hogs going 65 no surprise. I never maxed my 1200 Sportster out, but it would easily do 95 UP the steep hill north of the farm. Got one helluva massage while doing it, but it did it.

No. Just crazy side to side. As the picture above shows. I think it must have been a busted frame.

Remember the Spitfire that won the battle of Britain - well they used Lucas Mags to fire those plugs in them as much of the other electrical equipment was also Lucas When it came to cycles mfg asked for the cheapest product to do the job , Lucas supplied it to them . Now for the HD thing - Riding Nortons now for 55 years, I found it was best not to follow a HD machine as parts falling off can be detrimental to your survival . Almost got hit by as starter motor falling off the Sportser ahead of me as it lost that piece . Seems my collection now includes around 10 Norton commandos , 2 P11 desert racers, 2 Atlas Narrow line frame machines , Norton 650 ss , N15cs Scrambler, 2 Matchless 500cc singles , 6 triumph 650's , Triumph T140 On and 1 Moto Guzzi 1100cc Jackal
Oh and the Prince of Darkness said if the lord had wanted man to ride at night he would have given him eyes like a cat or owl .
