It's Sunday, May 24, and we just finished a tractor drive for one of the founders of our tractor club's 75th birthday. Bill Lange has been having very serious health problems for about five years. Bill and Nancy returned home from Florida to isolate at their farm north of Carlinville when they realized how serious COVID-19 is. Haven't been out much except to go to the doctor and hospital for tests. Their children have been doing their grocery shopping and errands. Their older daughter, Stacy, called me about a week ago to ask if we could get a tractor drive going and do a drive-by for Bill's birthday. Given the virus and the forecast for more rain, I was hoping for 10 tractors. We got 20 tractors, 7 cars, trucks, & SUV's, one side-by-side, and one semi tractor. Managed to keep it a secret until we were near enough that the grandkids noticed us. Only Stacy, her husband, and their kids knew about it. Stacy hadn't told her parents, brother or sister! Bill was elated! Couldn't hold back the tears. All the participants agreed that it was well worth the effort. (12 mile round trip.)   And we beat the rain! Thunderstorms are brewing. Again.

That’s one of those situations that given the circumstance I would hope someone would do for me! That was a neat thing to do.

You are correct, Bob.  Not only Cowboy Greg, but both of his sons and his dad, Ed, drove tractors.  Greg's wife & mom drove the Suburban.  I forgot to mention that PJ & Dane Rosentreter drove a 1947 Chevy fire truck in the tractor drive.  At least 20 years ago a couple bought the fire truck from the Girard Fire Department.  It was in great shape but they let it sit outside in a barn lot for at least a decade.  Then it went to the Macoupin County Historical Society.  It ran at that time but had no brakes.  The fire truck sat in sheds for years but spent the last two years outside.  The historical society discussed selling it for scrap.  PJ offered $500. and it was his.  Dane just turned 16 and wanted the truck for a project.  PJ owns PJ's Tire and Service Center in Carlinville.  Presto plus a whole lot of work and the fire truck has brakes and can drive in a tractor drive.  PJ's wife, Melanie, and middle son Jay rode in the back.  Dane was very happy.

Now that is a "feel good" story. Thanks for sharing that story. Would like to see more stories like that when I fire up my computer home page instead of all of the other crap that comes up. Darrel
