Just not in one unit! Finally had a decent day for some open air cultivating. The 190XT running a paltry 15' International Vibrashank. The D21 is mated to a 1300 silent weed killer that measures out at 27' at the widest point! It didn't look that big with the wings folded up. Sink it in the ground too deep and the D21 stops in its tracks. I didn't put fluid in when I put new tires on the back. Don't sink them in too deep, you may bend the shanks. BTDT. I don't know your operation but I don't need to dig deep. Great orange field photo’s - thanks for sharing. If possible, try reducing your AC 1300’s shovel size down to 4” (10cm) width. For convenience, try adding 1or2 300lb rear wheel hub outer cast donut weights to each side of your D21, instead of adding fluid. Is your XT a series II? Is it’s rear tires 38”? Wish mine looked that great - someday... |

The shovels are very worn, so probably didn't make it easier to pull. I definitely do not want to add fluid to the rears, so maybe if I get lucky I can find a set of weights cheap! The 190 is a 1967 Series I with 18.4 x 34 BKT rears. Nice looking outfits. Lonn's right about not too deep with that field cultivator. 3" normal, 4" at a maximum. Just deep enough to get a smooth, level surface. I'll bet they're fun to run.

| Field cultivators and their Owners are funny. I had two Customers with 7040 tractors that were pretty much identical in tires/duals/weight and HP. One bragged about pulling a 26 ft field cultivator at 5+ MPH and the other thought 20 ft was plenty most of the time. What a difference one inch of depth can make and the width of the sweep !!!! |

Great pictures! Wish I could enjoy a couple passes of seat time on one'a those! I remember my Grandfather interjecting into two younger farmers' bragging duel about their cultivator rigs. He said something to the effect of: "Silly to argue about it- I worked both your daddys' fields long before you were born. You got a riverbottom field that is all sandy loam, I've been through it with a huge cultivator like butter on my small tractor... and HIS is a clay hillside, can't cut through it with half the steel and twice the tractor..." ------------- Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest. |
