Someone educate me on the serial number chart on this site. Is the number under the year the first or last number of that year? For example, the first year for the D-10 was 1959 with serial number 1001. Did they start with number 1 and built 1001 tractors? Or did they start with 1001 and built 949 tractors with serial number 1950 being the first tractor for 1960? Daddy always told me he bought our D-10 in 63, but it was actually 62 hold over. The serial number on the bell housing is D10 7133. Best I can tell, that makes it a 63 or 64, depends on how you read the chart. Either way, it doesn't look like it could be a 62. For some reason that disappoints me. I want the tractor to be a 62 like I always believed. BTW, there's another serial right next to the one on the bell housing on the engine. That number is 12 - 3106 - R. What does that number mean? I just wondered why it would start with 12? This is a D-10 not a D-12.

| Most of the time, A-C started with s/n 1001. Serial numbers listed are for the FIRST tractor built in that year. A-C also didn't usually publish a partial years production. The D-17 started at s/n 1001 in the fall of 1957. The s/n book only shows 1958 and up, but yet there are 1957 build tractors. |

Both scenarios are in this chart. Depending what model you are looking at it may be the last number of the year or it may be the first number of the year. There is a note right below 1910's at the top that says "Early serial numbers are the ending number for each year". This apparently continued through the CA model. The last 1956 CA was s/n 38617. It appears the last 1957 CA serial number is unknown, as that year shows 38618+. Go down to the 1950's and in the line between the CA and the D10 model lines there is a note that says "Serial numbers from here on are the beggining number for each year". So the D10's started with #1001. So the serial number shown is the first serial number of each year listed for the models below that note. |

"Data Book" shows that serial number to be a 63. ------------- D14, D17, 5020, 612H, CASE 446 |

TractorData.com concurs, built in '63.  The other # is the engine serial number. I found the answer to your question on the '10' in the post below. Refers to engine displacement.
