On a char-lynn power steering system (WD45) does it matter which side of the torque generator the return and pressure line are plumbed, or does it work the same either way?

The pressure side on mine is the closest one to the out side.
The return line is clamped on,while the pressure side uses screw in fittings.
I don't believe it would be possible to switch them.

Thanks for the reply. It looks to me like the threaded ports in the connecting block on mine are the same size, so I think it can be connected either way with the corresponding fittings (though maybe shouldn't be). I'm just not sure exactly how that piece functions, or if it only functions corectly in one direction of flow.

You have to connect it correctly. The unit consist of a valve and an assist motor. If connected backward the assist will cause kickback because it is pressurizing the wrong side of the motor. The newer ones are marked in and out. All the literature I have seen is the in port is to the right side assuming the unit is installed correctly.
