I am going to look at a HD 6 dozer.  The  people say that it does not pull on one side.  I said the axle was broke but they said it was something else.  Could it be the clutch out on that side?  How hard is it to fix?  Anything else to check?  Looks like a nice machine.  I will know more when I see it.  I have heard that the final drive is week on them.  Any info would be helpful.

They are a nice small dozer. Could be the steering clutch. They come out thru the top of the clutch housing. You kinda gotta do a little standing on your head to get them out. If the bolts are not rusted up, they are not usually too hard to change. I never had a final drive problem with one. When my back got so bad I could not run them, I traded my last one off and let the service\owners Manuel's go with them. Sorry.

I have some excess manuals, however I would need a serial number to determine if I have the right one. Look on instrument panel or right rear cast housing of the tractor.

The HD5 and HD6 share the same rear casting and same drive gears and other parts including sprockets and track (just more links and rollers depending on modle)
Steering clutch is first idea of why but beyond there it's just a guess. Axles were of a couple different designs with large spline and small spline as also drilled axle for lubrication to outboard Link Belt bearing mounted to truck frame to units where outer bearing is lubed separately .

HD 5 with loader here, that broke the final drive. A non operator used it to batter a big oak stump.  Normal use would ware the steering clutch but abuse can break anything.

So just don't pay much. Parts are where you find them.Wink I have several old farm HD 5's you could come get parts from,.........................but we are a l..o...n.....g way apart.
