Dad bought a WD new in the summer of 1953. In the fall of '53, the dealer came out
from Oelwein and said Dad could trade for a WD-45 for $600. Dad didn't think that there
could be that much difference. There was! Dad always regretted that decision.
The dealer held a plowing field day in a 40 acre field on the East edge of Oelwein for the WD-45 , probably in late September. He couldn't get an A-C Snap Coupler plow, so he had to use an IH Little Genius pull-type 3-16's plow. There were 4 A-C wheel weights on each back wheel of the WD-45.
The block man told me to go in third when it was my turn to plow. Plowing at 5 miles per hour made me think I was flying after being used to plowing in low with the WD.Smile
Today that 40 acre field is home to a big Lutheran Church and a lot of houses.
The picture is Photoshopped, but  it would have looked very similar to the actual  plowing demonstration day.
