I've had this WD for about 12 years. This is the first "failure" I've had. Was using the tractor last fall for final cleanup around the place when the bucket took off on its own to the top of the rams. It took about an hour before the pressure started to bleed off and the bucket drop sufficiently that I could get the unit back in its "hole" for winter storage.
Well, its time to get to work and I have put off trying to figure out what was wrong so I thought I'd start with the collective knowledge and see if there were ideas.

As an FYI, I started it yesterday and the rams do not move at this point.

thanks

Bill

Do you have a manual?
could be something as simple as the control valve falling out of adjustment.
That thumbscrew is turned one way or the other to perform different functions.

I’m sure glad you were not sideways on a side hill with a bucket full last fall! Try to keep in mind pushing in your foot clutch would have stopped that runaway.

Sounds like spool valve sticking in pump. Came loose after cooling.       MACK

I have the original manual for the tractor. I looked at that page but it didn't seem to apply to the runaway bucket. Also, the thumb screw has enough paint on it it will take a hammer and chisel to move it!

Mack
would that spool valve sticking prevent the bucket from moving later?

It could prevent it later. Heat causes them to stick most times.    MACK

What would cause the pump to be overheated? Maybe by low or perhaps contaminated fluid or just working the tractor hard? Thanks.

Dave
