Well I finally got around to resealing the manifold on the d17 and installing the new nelson muffler I purchased from Alex back in February.I had to do a little creative shimming on the rear intake runner stud but it all worked out fairly well.Installed a new stainless pipe nipple as well.I use the walker exhaust sealer on the gaskets which makes for a good seal for many years of service.I used this on my 45 manifold 8 or 9 years ago and it's still leak free to this day.Hard to believe the difference between the old stanley muffler and the nelson, what a beautiful sound.A BIG thanks to  Alex09(WI) for getting these mufflers made!!!

Nice Job, now wheres the before and after sound clips??? Wink
Nice that you put a stainless pipe on, now that will hopefully outlast the manifold.

JC, I wish I was a little more tech savvy, before and after sound clips would be great. The stainless was a donation from my buddy. He's got loads of that kind of stuff.Got to like having good buds that donate to the cause!!!

I was hoping they were an off brand I have run across online. GTK tires. 10 ply and look to be a BKT clone. I need four 13.6 x 38. Ebay has them for $400 delivered. Gonna give the local guys a chance first.

I see your a Dale fan. I never missed a race when he was driving and I don't think I have watched a whole race since he died.

I just checked with my old supplier. You should be able to get 13.6x38 tires installed for $400.00. They had several brands, Harvest King 8 ply, used to be Kelly built, were the cheapest. I put a lot of them on for customers back in the day.

Looks like you've done a nice job making the exhaust system last now Dave. That muffler does look good. Is this the tractor you bought off Ky.Allis awhile ago.

Dave,
Exhaust looks real good! The 17 looks ready to work too!
How do you like the lift in the shop? do you feel its in the way? I have been thinking about one if I ever get a shop built. 12 foot finished ceiling?
Regards,
 Chris

Hey Tim, how are ya these days?Yes that's the tractor from KY.Allis.Brought it home on 9/13 last fall. It's one fine tractor, truely solid from one end to the other.I've seen posts on here on how nice these tractors were and always thought the comments were a little exaggerated on the d17, I WAS WRONG.The d17 is a pleasure  to run and operate, love this tractor. It does have a little healthier appetite for gas than my wd45 though..lol...

Chris, yea I'm ready to work the old tractor here pretty soon. As for the lift, it's not really in the way at all.I'm semi retired from the automotive field so it is a must.I can't imagine working without one.My building is a Morton building with 12 foot walls. The catch is the raised cord truss system and is the reason I get buy with a 12 foot wall and still have enough over head clearance over the lift.Probably 18" or so rise from the wall to the center of the shop. You can kind of see that in the seventh pic.By the way your posts and projects are awesome to watch. Also ,your tribute to Don (MO) was nothing short of great.

Hey Dave! Thanks for the shout-out! That narrow ft D17 looks sharp! Good thinking on the gasket maker on the manifold gaskets! Here at the shop, I use a thin layer of highest temp permatex between all the pieces on the gasket set and they seal up very nice!

I just downloaded an app on my phone yesterday that shows the decibel level of sounds, I hope to make a comparison video this weekend of the stanley/nelson muffler.

Alex, Decibel sound levels, that would be great to see ...and hear!
just off hand, is the body of the muffler the same length  on the series IV as the 170 muffler?  Thanks

Body is the same. Outlet pipe is about 8 to 10 inches longer and a little larger in diameter.
