The recent post with the 2 '17's got me wondering. What was the original body color of the ORIGINAL D series?? What color/configuration was the grill ??

Early 14s and 17s were entirely PO1.  Somewhere in the middle of the run the 17 turned to PO2.  That would also coincide with when the rims turned cream.

The D14 grill and decals were changed on later models.

The D17 changed to PO2 at S/N 32001.

I was WAY too young to know the serial # of dad's '17, but was definitely PO 2(we also ran a WD at the same time),cream mesh grill, headlights on the front and a round muffler, not oval like in the pictures of a previous thread.

I think dad's early D17 was the same color as the 1955 WD45. Rims might have some silver on them.

Early D14 and D17 were all PO #1, orange grill no black accent, silver decal letters on hood, script model logo on side panels.  Orange wheel centers, silver galvanized spin outs on rear,  I think front rims were orange.    Since the D series changed about every year a lot of parts got swapped out over the years.   My D14 is a 57 but has all the wrong decals.

Norm Swimfords book does a good job on the D series changes for each year.

Should look like below except not black and white.   After a few months loading manure didn't much matter.

I always thought it would be neat if someone made those old simple, khaki canvas seat covers again instead of the shiny vinyl ones that never look right on old tractors.

But I have the same opinion about those sissy looking exhaust covers.
