the old lady....oooooops….I mean the loving wife came home today from work...she had a case of bread and another case of fresh veggies in her burb. she said the local food pantry came to her work and offered all this food because no one else will take it. the veggies are fresh and some are mixed and in sealed plastic bags for premade uncooked veggy stew, when people come in, they see them and when they learn they may have to cook them, they won't take them. they would rather go thru a drive thru for food for the family. I too have noticed a lot more pre-made/pre-cooked items in the frozen food sections of stores. just nuke it and serve! PfffffT! last night we ate meat balls in some home made French onion soup, they were really good and had some left over, took 2 of them pre-made up veggie bags that she got today and added them to the left over soup. wow....was that good! let it simmer on the grill for a couple hours. I have everything else she brought home out in the freezer, think we'll have more tonight.

One of our local food banks couldn’t give away fresh corn last year because it hadn’t been shucked and silked! Sad what we have become !

Not 'we' Joe, but the newest generation. They MIGHT be learning now though, with this virus thing and keeping everyone cooped up. It would be interesting to see how they are going to feed themselves when all the fast food places have to close up. Nobody knows how to cook anymore or the joys of cooking. One of the most desirable things I'd like to see is a family sitting down together around a table at meal time. Not just on holidays, but everyday, like when I grew up. That was a wondrous time.

Tom, my most favorite veggy is asparagus. I know a number of ways to cook it and I just LOVE it. Makes one of the best soups too.

bread is real easy to freeze..... spin like a top, attach twist tie close to bread, it'll keep for 3-4 weeks easy. The 'trick' is to get it out the night BEFORE you need it.... I just did 6 loaves down 1/2 hr ago, using 30 year old twist ties from my computer fixin dayze...

I cooked up some of them veggies we was given yesterday. cut 'em up some, found a couple new York strip steaks in the freezer, cubed them, a little beef broth, a little French dip, parsley flakes, button mushrooms, and a bay leaf. cooked the pot on high for 2 hours on the grill, and served...my old lady...oooooops….I mean my loving wife don't like veggies, but she scarfed these down and liked it! the veggies that were in the bags are: whole red taters with the skins on, celery, baby carrots, and a large sweet onion. I still have about 20 bags of them veggies in the freezer...we'll eat them!

I don't think they taste bad, we buy them and steam them for doggy treats. they are better for the dogs and I always grab a few to eat myself! Joe...after you plant them, do you water them? we water ours every day thru the growing season.
