I'm slowly working through small issues with Papaw McDaniel's Allis Chalmers model B. This is a very rewarding project.

The clutch engagement on this thing is BRUTAL! There's a very very fine line between engaged and disengaged. Doesn't offer to slip at all, I've pulled a very steep hill in third gear and it just gobbles it up. I want to make it softer but not at the risk of making it start slipping

It there an adjustment?

The shop manual should have the details you need.

My guess would be the disk has oil on it. Even out of adjustment it should be a smooth engagement.

Are you sure you didn't put the clutch disc in backward?

I've never had it out. And as far as oil on it.......... she don't leak oil all that bad. Tomorrow I'll crawl under it and have a look

I'm thinking that the clutch face is worn out and what is left is grabbing.
