Son has a CASE 530 backhoe / loader. We bought it locked up about 10 years ago. Rebuilt the motor. It starts and runs great in the summer when its 60- 90 degrees outside. I refuses to start when its 30 degrees ambient. ( this is a 230 gas motor -4 cyl- distributor).. You have to spray ether into the air cleaner to get it to fire. Once its up to 500 rpm, the motor runs on gas and quickly warms up..... Had some carb troubles over the last 10 years. Took apart a couple times and rebuilt due to crud in the old gas tank..... But it STILL dont want to start when cold . WHY? is this common to THIS motor or specific reasons when motors dont start at 30 degrees... I assume the gas will not pickup and atomize...... but WHY ? My AC-B starts up in 2-3 revolutions of the motor (mag) ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

If it's too cold, you are correct, the gas can't atomize. Best thing to do is take the plugs out and torch the electrode end and put them back in. If you can get them all in while they are hot it works better. Should fire right up. ------------- D14, D17, 5020, 612H, CASE 446 |

I have been looking at You Tube.... Seems like one recommendation is to check the choke to make sure it closes all the way ( to make it suck gas)... and there is a spring loaded door ( 1/4 inch dia approx) in the choke plate... they say to check if it is broke or wont seal.............. thats all i can think of to get the gas to atomize... I can get it started on fluid or maybe warming the carb.... but that should NOT be necessary at 30 degrees. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

My outside tractors were finicky too if they sat very long. Really helped to start using only non-ethanol gas. I use aviation fuel in my two cycle stuff after they started acting up. My D14 has never had any engine work done and even though it is 12 volt now it is hard to start, floods easy when cold. Got a WD-45 doing the same thing. ----Check for air leaks around the manifold and carb to manifold area. carb bolts tight and gasket good? Just for giggles, take the plugs out 1 time and dump a bit of gas in each cylinder, put plugs back in and see if that will start it. Sounds like gas not sucking up the manifold to the cylinders for some reason. I wonder if there is a pin hole somewhere above the carb sucking air instead of gas. Been trying to start this 45 for 2 years now with no luck. Some engines are funny about starting. ------------- http://machinebuildersnetwork.com/ |
