Sitting here watching country music tonight. Sure takes me back to the 70's and 80's when I was spending 16 + hours a day in the cab of a truck.

Drivers, or as I call them 'Herders' today have no clue how it was just thirty to forty years ago. I watched that too, strummed some of my heart strings too.

Never drove a big truck, but spent about the same number of years listening to CM behind the wheel of a pickup........covering all manner of backgrounds in Missouri.

And being married to a spouse from Chicago......made that trek up ol Double Nickles more times than I care to remember.....including a short time before I55 was routed around Lincoln. Would switch over to WMAQ from Chicago somewhere north of Springfield. You could not go more than 30 minutes before they would play a song by Red Sovine.......Giddyup Go, Teddy Bear or my favorite.....Phantom 309. For some reason, WMAQ really had a thing for Red Sovine......and Dave Dudley. Not so much for Lester Flatt........and Backed her all the way to Birmingham. Had to listen to KFAL out of Fulton for that one.

BTW, one takeaway from the PBS show was that those stars were some seriously messed up people. Some had a  tough start.......others it was self inflicted........but messed up just the same.

But imagine renting a big dance hall and booking Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys to come to some backwater town........and putting a piano in the back of a truck and hauling it 40 miles so they would have one to play........and finding out that was done by a 14 year old kid......and that kid was Willie Nelson. That ain't normal.....not then or now.

Somehow that Country of the 60's and 70's made one feel like you knew those individuals as they presented life in a way you understood .
Honky Tonk Man , Walk On By , or many other songs that were your life also .
Watched most of that show also and enjoyed it , kind of a lot of cross over performers from other side of music that found homes in Country

We have two new outlaw country stations near here now. I’m really liking some of the new outlaw stuff.
Still love the old stuff. I won’t let my ears hear modern top 40 so called country.

Problem with the modern era stuff is the same problem that plagues us in general. Most of the radio stations have consolidated into just a few hands......so instead of 1000 independent stations and 1,000 independent program directors deciding what makes it on the air, it's 100 stations all under the direction of a few people and only 1 or 2 program directors for all of them. Corporate country. So what you get these days is a Justin Bieber knockoff or some kinda white rapper with a stubble beard and tattoos wearing his goofy branded cowboy hat and mouthing the same old crappy crap crap. And they call that Country?

Yes, some of the more traditional stuff is still out there but is getting harder to find.....

If you have ever traveled south out of Iowa in Missouri on Hwy 63.......just north of Kirksville, you pass through tiny little Greentop........hometown of this little girl........

Those kids have real instruments and know how to play em. Maybe someday when the modern era stuff has crashed and burned, they will pick up the pieces and put the good stuff back on the air.

BTW, on the Outlaw Country, had a chance to listen to some of that on Sirius FM back during the holidays. I think it was Willie Nelson channel.......maybe 60? One session had a couple hours hosted by Ray Benson, lead guy of Asleep at the Wheel. New guys, old guys.......stuff that is not on the air anywhere else. Best radio I've heard in years.

Air antennaefor some years now and watched that PBS Ken Burns special when it aired late last year.
Disappointed they did not spend a bit more time on Patsy and Jim Reeves was hardly mentioned. Wondered why Marty Stewart was interviewed so much until I realized how many people he played with, and he knew a bunch about many of them.
A bit heavy on Cash but Burns is heavy on his influence in interviews I've seen over the years on him making documentaries, he does quite a thorough job on his research and the Civil War was also excellent.

The Circle Channel popped up her a month or so back and it also has some interesting CW documentaries.
The Charley Pride special was absolutely worth watching and he is still a character.
50 Top Ten hits and IIRC, 31 #1's.
Huge, starting in early 70's for me and that fella has had an interesting life for sure.
So much he could have for hate for what he went through but states in the show that he never had an issue with anyone.
What a voice on "Just Between You and Me" . . . . .

My wife took me to see Marty Stewart recently. It was a nice day. We went to town early to park and just walk around. We ran in to Marty on the Street. Had a good visit.
