Did you have your internet tuned into the "deadwood cameras?" I was down there again this weekend. Spent a little time in a few casinos, but didn't contribute much to them. Got off work a little early on Friday, came home, wife didn't have to work the weekend, so I said "what ya say we head down to deadwood for the weekend?" She said "sure", and we were off like a prom dress! Had a great time! Kind of had a little chuckle on the way home. Between me and Deadwood, there is a whole lot of nothing, and I forgot to gas up before I headed out into the land of "nothing". But there is a little spot on the map in between called "Hoover". I've been by it many times, and seen their sign saying gas, cold beer, etc., but have never stopped in. Figured we'd have to try em out today. It truly is out in the middle of no where. I told the wife that if we showed them a credit card, they would probably think that we some kind of lunatics (well, I guess we are) trying to pass off some kind of funny money. Well, they did know what a credit card was, but they don't take em there. Cash only. $3.40 a gallon for gas. Told the guy to put in 60 dollars worth. Said he'd try to get close, but since his pump was a little antiquated, it only showed gallons, so he'd have to do the math in his head. LOL! I am sure that if I would have asked him if he had a card reading pump, he would have thought I was from the future! Inside the store, looked like it was straight from Gunsmoke. Antique cash register that worked! An old, very old, original pot belly stove that was stoked up, cranking out heat. Guy said that they have a lot of fun there! I suppose that I should gas up there again some time to keep them there in case I ever need them again. Darrel |
