I am considering buying a Trimble EZ Steer unit for planting with my 7045 and 7060 tractors. I have the compatible GPS unit already that I use for spraying, but I seldom bother with it for planting. Will one of these "entry level" units work well enough with my tractors to be worth the 2k or so they cost?
Not trying to argue the economics about how much overlap they might save etc, just if they will actually be able to follow a marker trail better than I can.

I run agleader Ontrac 3 with free RTK on an 8010 and Kinze 8-15. For the most part I like it. It seems to have a little trouble right at dusk and if I get near large overhanging trees. I use a straight line in the middle of the field and I’m satisfied with the offset. It will hunt back and forth about 6” but if you look at the total distance it will be a straight line.

It’s hard for me to follow marker lines any closer than that anyway and it allows me to watch every thing else that’s going on. It really takes the stress out of having to try to follow the markers and worry about the planter drift on slopes. For me I would hate to do without it. It’s also nice for spreading fertilizer

We plant with an 8050 and 8070 running Trimble 750's on the free signal. EZ steer will draw a straight line. We have the Field IQ to turn on and off the planter on the end rows. I can plant all night without fear of how it will look when the crop comes up.

Always check and make sure the drive/driven shafts are turning before the planter leaves the end rows and that they are still turning after you have entered the end rows. I don't like to see skips.

I have a 750 and an ez steer on a 8050. Might be a tight fit in a 7060, but should work. I use the range point signal, both wass and range point will keep a straight line, but the range point signal doesnt drift during the day. But it cost $400 for last year, not sure about this year, it is a big improvement.

No tilling beans on a angle, auto steer is great, spraying beans is even better!

Make sure the unit is properly adjusted to your tractor really makes a difference. A guy that knows what he is doing can have it adjusted in about a half hour or so.

Its is habit forming when you are used to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We run a 500 with EZ steer on free signal ( wass). Is it perfect, no. But it’s real close. Kinda like my garage door opener. I,m not getting rid of it. Run ours on an Agco Allis but wouldn’t be afraid of putting it on our 7045. Do as Randy says and have someone that’s been around them to dial the unit in for you.

I would ad that I have a 250 Trimble with EZ Steer in the 7045. With an 80 foot spray boom, it shows me where I need to be with the sprayer. I have used it to spread oats and to spray solid seeded beans.
