My father in law is putting a new clutch in a 5040 for a neighbor. it is one with two stage foot clutch. we have the tractor split and clutch removed. everything is ready to back together but noone paid attention that the pins between the two halves of the clutch and the ones that contact the flywheel are different lengths. i actually cant find either on agco parts book.com. does anyone know where which ones go? also is there anything else i should know when reassembling?

There are different clutches in 5040's.  We have done dozens but never will attempt the job without getting a factory set complete Hy-capacity unit.  Suggest you do the same.  I would wager you will put this unit together 4 or 5 times before you break down and get the kit - they are precision set or you will have slippage or non-release and gear grind with the same as to the PTO area.  There are 6 9 12 speed with foot and independent lever pto set configurations.  They have LUK and OMG clutches that cannot intermingle parts or clutch discs. The Romanian Roadsters were tough little tractors that had clutches that drove people crazy at replacement time.  Post a picture of your issues and we will try to help , otherwise pretty much guessing = go to agcopartsbooks.com to see options. .

Thanks for the reply. It is quite an odd clutch. This one is a 9 speed with a ten inch clutch and foot release for pto. We spoke to bill at sandy lake implement yesterday and he told us the short pins go against the flywheel. The clutch kit we used was a hi capacity as that is what was recommended by SLI. They also lent us an alignment tool and gave us great instructions on setting things up. It’s really nice having bill and Brenda in our “back yard” when we need help. We got it rolled back together last night and I think my FIL and neighbor were finishing it today. Fingers crossed
