What is the correct distributor shaft end play, for a distributor on a WD45?

Coworker asked me, and I have no idea. He is replacing the main bushing. Bought an after-market one, then found out they are supposed to be porous, so he got an Allis one. Now he must be putting it together.

Not sure if there is an actual "spec" or not?

I don't think end play really comes into the equation.  Since its a bevel gear that runs it offa the cam, it sits where it wants to.  Side to side play is what the concern is, since that can affect the point gap...Wink

think the 45 setup is like the old speedometer gear drives and the direction of turn pulls down on shaft so end play has no consequence.

Dave is right. Side to side clearance is critical. .0003-.0005" is the max side to side. If it moves up and down, that's okay. Check the drive gear wear also. A dead give away is a crooked rub block on the points. If the main shaft has a wobble in it, the dwell changes constantly making the engine run poor and wears the rub block crooked. We have rebuilt Distributors in stock for exchange if interested....

Is that decimal point in the right place?
