I picked up an 816GT about 15 years ago, belts and an ignition key switch initially is all it needed after sitting in storage for years. Twin B&S had a bit of a knock and was carboned up badly, water hose on the smallest steady stream directly in the carb at 1/2 throttle as recommended by an old dealer really cleaned it up. Seafoam in fuel and oil and she started to come around even more, been on Rotella Diesel oil for years and the splash lube cast B&S likes it. Piped the drain with nipple/mini BV and drop the oil every 20-30 hours. Clean the air filter constantly and service the rear drive fluid will keep her going and she came out to the farm for the big yard, shop yard and both sides of long driveway down to the road expecting I might get a couple years out of it.
Picked up another one expecting to need a parts unit and have never pulled any parts from it, it runs as well.
816GT had the sealed spindles so upgraded to greasable spindles, Sandy Lake Implement can get whatever you need and they know these units well.
With 48" cut she keeps me from buying a nice zero turn, not worth the big money for me as the old gal just won't die.
The A-C/Simplicity units are built well enough to upgrade to a Honda engine swap when the OEM engines wear out, built better than the junk they are building for riders these days.

Must be, I have a T-816 that I need a transmission, or second gear for. I haven't found any donors. It still available new, but pricey.

Maybe check with Sandy Lake on gear price, they can likely also advise if any GT parts are common?
