I've a 180 that showed up Tuesday at my shop. It's pushing hydraulic oil into the transmission case. They don't want to spend much money on it, and tractor is in rough condition. They clear snow on a driveway with 3 pt blade and mow weeds in a 3 to 4 acre horse pasture a couple times a year. Her dad and I worked same place 40+ years ago! I know this "FIX" has been mentioned on here before. I am thinking of running a hose from drain plug to drain plug. My issue is looking at transmission plug, if I drill it out it'll only be able to have a 1/4"npt tapped in and with drawbar underneath room is limited. IF I thread a 1/4" npt 90 elbow in, the hole in the elbow is the same diameter as 3/8" fuel hose. ( I put a drill bit in to check ) Looking on shelves I have elbows, hose and hose fittings onhand to do this. My question to those that have done this is: Will 3/8" hose allow oil to equalize fast enough?

Don't know, but I do know if they operate the tractor with the Power Director clutch in LOW range, it will transfer much less oil than if in HIGH range, but I'm sure they won't do that.

I have a 3/8" line on my 190 I've been going to fix it but I only use it a couple times a year. I got another drain plug fo the transmition and drilled and taped it I used a street elbow in the plug and a thin wall barbed fitting in it clear tubing and the hydraulic drain end a standard pipe reducer street elbow and barbed fitting . Mine never leaves the yard but it has worked for a couple years. Mostly mine just drives around the yard moving stuff out of the way of the plow truck.

I talked with the owners about it today. They went to town and got 15 gal of a universal Hyd/trans fluid, is what they've been using in hydr. I'm going to put on the 3/8" hose and let them try it. IF it won't equalize fast enough they can decide if the want to spend the $$ for someones labor to split and replace the seals. I've replaced these seals in a few tractors so had idea of time it would take. Dave and Dr thanks for your input.
