The battery box on my 185 was rusted out, so I pulled the box to have it rebuilt. All of that stuff is going fine. However, I noticed that there is a lever behind the clutch pedal which moves up and down when I pull on it. It was in the down position when I started. I can't see that anything has ever been connected to the lever. The tractor runs, drives, starts shifts and pulls fine, btw. The only reason I had the battery box off the tractor is that it rusted out big time.  So, what is it and do I leave it the way I found it or is something not connected? ------------- D17 Series III,D17 Series IV, 185 |

| A rod would be hooked to that lever on tractors with manual PTO engagement. Leave it where it was or your PTO won't work. |

On my 190XT, I connected a rod to it so I could disengage the hydraulic pto assembly from shaft so I could hook up pto and be able to turn the shaft with ease then pulled up on the lever to reconnect. that would have probably been on an order change unit - started on the line as a mechanical unit and some one called and said they wanted a hyd clutch - or they had a bunch of units that were guessed spec'd as manual and the orders came in for a batch of hyd clutches. Cheaper to let them go than to change them out. ------------- When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money.. |

I believe all the 180, 185, 190, 200 had this lever whether they had the hydraulic pto or manual pto at least on the 540 only units. Don't know if I've ever seen a 185 with mechanical honestly. ------------- 30+ A-Cs ranging from a 1928 20-35, to a 1984 8070FWA, Gleaner R52 |
